I know this is a year old. I would see if you could just get liability insurance. At least your protected from law suits. Thanks for the video. PS did you get the information on edible weeds Garry tibo.
My in-laws had this problem, as well, when they were living full time in their RV. However, their’s was mobile and wintered over in southern Texas, so they were finally able to get it added to their vehicle insurance somehow. I hope you’ve been able to find insurance – unless you self-insure, which I believe requires like 25K set aside for something like that.
To insure your place as a mobile home, how many sq ft does it have to have as a minimum? Curious to know. Thank you and I am praying that you finally find the insurance that you two need for your wonderful new home. Blessings.
just a thought . if you have no insurance a layer will not take a case against you.If it burns down do you really have that much money in it that you can not simply rebuild ?
A good question is why don’t they just class the home as other and simply just insure it? I’m guessing a house built from scratch with the square footage you all have wouldn’t be a problem to insure. My parents started out in a mobile home that was about as big as a shed we have now. I think the shed is 10×24. Not exactly sure about that. Many years ago, mom and dad had a hardship and sold a two-story house four days before the bank repo was about to happen. They never had the home inspected because it was new. Big mistake because it was a lemon. Mom used to joke that they started out in a 72 model trailer and wound up back in a 72 model trailer. We now have a 28×78 doublewide and approx. an acre of land that, as of around 2 months ago, is paid off. Thank the Lord for that !!!
OK here’s is what I have learned and done as instructed by an agent friend..I have a uhaul truck I’ve built a house on and its a tiny house so its hard to classify also. I called geico on the phone. I’ve also used progressive. But its important to do it on the phone and they want to sell you insurance. Keep that in mind but you call to insure your RV under RV insurance offering no information other than the vin number make and model of the vehicle/trailer you can choose of coarce the level of the insurance if asked his often you drive it which is unlikely as its a trailer simply say far less than a hundred miles a month .they don’t need to know about pilings or the poarch room the external things you’ve done. They just need to know its a trailer maybe how many axles it has a vin and how much you want to spend. Good luck.
The only way you can insurance your belonging in the RV is that the property has to be in someone elses name and you rent it, say 1 dollar a month, just an example, then you can get renters insurance.
I live in a 28x8x8 construction trailer and I have it insured with Formost Home Insurance AARP Mobil Home25Insurance Section. I have it insured for $25, 000, about $8,000 more than a new construction trailer costs, because I still have to install the kitchen and a good heating system in the new construction trailer should God forbid I need to do that. Give em a call see what they say, and if available in your area. I have regular home owners and since I own telephone poles that are on my property because I"m far in off the road, insurance paid to replace one of the poles after a tree fell on it and crack it at the base, so this insurance is good stuff. Call them at 800-752-2461… I live an hour west of Philadelphia in a small suburb / rural township.
I thought your plan was to live free? it sounds like you are just going smaller. was there a mortgage that you escaped? in short how has this transition helped to improve your life style? Have you reached most of your goals?
Just found your channel and love it by the way not sure you ever resolved your insurance issue but if you’re worried about people possibly getting injured on your property in suing you the only thing I could suggest would be an umbrella insurance policy wouldn’t cover the place if it burnt down but would at least cover you in the case of injury
It maybe too late…but, if you lift your skirt (around the trailer), add braces to the sunroom where it connects to the trailer (legally separates the trailer), make your front steps independent of the trailer. Then you can insure your trailer and the land.
Farmers and also Progressive covers full time RV Livng full time they cover everything and the wheels can be off the RV and attached porch/screen room…We have ours through farmers and there great.
Check out tinyhousebuild.com and see the blog post from May 2014 called "Tiny House Insurance". If you scout around the site you can find a search box. I typed in "insurance" and found the blog I thought I remembered reading. It sounds promising! Good luck!
Will USAA cover you? I want to live in a Tiny House… It would be terrible to lose the value of your dwelling and contents… How about renter’s insurance so that at least your contents are covered?
Bill, I would suggest you find a good small house forum and pose the question. We had a problem insuring our food truck built on the chassis of a 1998 ASTRO Van…The insurance co. Saw it as a 1998 ASTRO when the value was in the alterations. …so we kept looking until we found an insurer (Progressive.) Good luck finding it…you will.
Good info, sir. I know a lot of lawyers .. it does SEEM like "Alice in Wonderland," some issues. On this, just a quick thought .. y’all and your videos are like a small business now .. perhaps form an LLC for what you do, and insure LLC, and get an "umbrella" and cover everything, including your video "studio." A real good insurance agent might help.
Hi Bill I found this site and wanted to share it. This company insures Tiny Homes and work in 48 states. Hope it helps. http://www.insuremytinyhome.com/ .
I would suggest Foremost Insurance. Just tell them you want to insure your RV. They don’t care if it is on blocks. There is no need to tell them that. You can also insure your outbuildings on the same policy. I’ve done it.

Did you ever get insured?

Well that’s a real bite in the ankle. Have you had any success on this yet?
Hello, have you found an insurance co. yet that will insure you?
Bill, could you add on another room to increase the square footage to whatever the minimum is for a modular/mobile home?
Please update up on the insurance. Did you eventually find an insurance company?
Foremost is the best !!!
Bless you both and thank you.
